The news module is used as an easy and fast method for creating news articles and posting them onto your web page. All items created by the News module will be displayed on any 'News' type page on your web-site. The News module also determines the display of the 'News Announce' spec block. To get to it from the start page, click on the 'News' icon.

There are two main portions to the news module; the item editor and the visual editor.

  1. The item editor is where you can delete , edit , or publish/unpublish a news article. You can do the same functions with the 'Group options' buttons by checking the box on the left side for all the news items you want to work with.
  2. This is the visual editor. The 'Publish' checkbox determines if the article is viewable by the public. The 'Page' dropdown is used to determine which news page (if you have more than one) the news item is displayed on. 'Common item' means that it will be displayed on all news pages. 'Date' is the date of the news item. 'Header' is required and will be the news item's header in announcements and other modules. 'Picture', 'Popup picture', and 'Small picture' are all photo upload wizards. 'Picture' is for a feature picture, 'Popup picture' is useful if the picture in question is too big to fit comfortably on a page, and 'Small picture' is used as a thumbnail image.
    1. Announce Tab - This is where you would put in a brief summary of the article, usually two or three sentences. It is entirely edited in the visual editor. This is not shown in the full view of the article.
    2. Body Tab - This is where you put the full article. This is what is viewed in the full view of an article. It is also entirely edited in the visual editor. This will not be shown in the News Announce spec block.
    3. Option Tab - The option tab is where various options are set. 'Don't show in lists' removes the article from announce lists. 'Show first in lists (sticky element)' makes sure the article is first in any announce lists until the date entered in the 'Till:' input box. 'Link' is the link to the article, so an article named 'newsarticle' would have a URL of 'www.yourwebpage.com/news/newsarticle'. 'Page title in browser:' determines the title displayed at the very top of the browser window. 'Keywords (comma delimited):' is used to determine keywords for searches, and 'Description:' is where you'd put a short info description for the page. Link, Page title, Keywords, and Description are all automatically generated, and usually don't require editing.

Of particular note, outside of the news module, is the 'News announce strip' specblok. This is a specblok that is used to create a space in your page that announces new articles, with links to those articles. You should put this in a left or right menu bar, or some other shared space such as the header or footer to make sure that there is a link to your newest articles. To place this object, use the specblok tool in the visual editor and select the 'News announce strip' specblok:
